Smalltalk processes the following types of data — all exclusively on your device:

• Voice Recordings — Audio captured via the microphone, stored locally on your device.
• Transcriptions — Text generated from your recordings using Apple's on-device speech recognition.
• Notes & Metadata — Titles, tags, action items, and timestamps generated by Apple Intelligence — all on-device.
• User Preferences — Settings such as language, theme, and folder structure, stored locally.

Smalltalk uses the following Apple system technologies that run entirely on your device:

• Apple Speech Recognition — Converts your voice to text locally. No audio leaves your device.
• Apple Intelligence — Generates titles, tags, and action items from your transcripts. All AI processing is on-device.
• Face ID / Touch ID — Biometric authentication for locked notes. Biometric data is handled by iOS and never accessible to Smalltalk.

If you have iCloud enabled, Smalltalk syncs your notes across your devices using Apple's CloudKit framework. This means:

• Encrypted in transit — Data is encrypted during transfer to Apple's servers.
• Encrypted at rest — Your notes are stored encrypted on Apple's iCloud servers.
• Apple's infrastructure — iCloud sync is governed by Apple's privacy policy and terms. The developer (Sebastian Oczachowski) has no access to your iCloud data.

You can disable iCloud sync at any time in your device's Settings. Your notes will then only be stored locally.

Smalltalk does not use any analytics, tracking, or advertising frameworks. Specifically:

• No analytics SDKs — No Firebase, Mixpanel, Amplitude, or similar tools.
• No advertising — No ads, no ad tracking, no advertising identifiers.
• No crash reporting — No third-party crash reporting services. We rely solely on Apple's built-in crash reporting.
• No user profiling — We don't create profiles or track user behavior in any way.

This website (smalltalknotes.com) is a static website. It does not use cookies, tracking pixels, or analytics of any kind. The website uses Google Fonts, which are loaded from Google's servers. Google may log your IP address when fonts are loaded. See Google's privacy policy for details.

Under the Swiss Federal Act on Data Protection (nDSG) and the EU General Data Protection Regulation (GDPR), you have the following rights:

• Right of access — You can request information about what data we process.
• Right to rectification — You can request correction of inaccurate data.
• Right to deletion — You can request deletion of your data. Since all data is stored on your device and in your iCloud account, you can delete it yourself at any time.
• Right to data portability — All notes are stored in Markdown format and can be exported from the app at any time.
• Right to object — You can object to data processing at any time.

This privacy policy is based on the Swiss Federal Act on Data Protection (nDSG, in force since September 1, 2023). For users in the European Union, the EU General Data Protection Regulation (GDPR) additionally applies. Since Smalltalk processes all data on your device and does not collect any personal data on our servers, the legal basis for processing is your consent through using the app (Art. 6(1)(a) GDPR / Art. 31 nDSG).

We may update this privacy policy from time to time. Any changes will be posted on this page with an updated date. We encourage you to review this page periodically.
